Steve was a two-year All-American, All Big Eight conference in 1967-69, and Big 8 Player of the Year in 1968,69. Drafted by Detroit, Steve was All-Pro in 1971 & 1972. He retired after 6 years due to a knee injury. In 1991, he was named to Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and Walter Camp Foundation, and in 1992 was inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Honor. Steve is CEO of Steve Owens Associates and President of Owens-Powell & Associates. He gives his time to Make-a-Wish, Cystic Fibrosis, and the Norman YMCA. Steve became Athletic Director of the Sooners in 1996. Steve & Barbara have a son, Michael who lives in Norman. Elected to NFF&C Hall of Fame in 1991.
