Eddie George captured Ohio State University's 6th Heisman Trophy. At 6-foot 3-inches and 227 pounds, the gifted senior tailback gained 1877 yards rushing for a 152.2 per game average and scored 23 touchdowns, for a 12 ppg average. He also caught 44 passes for 399 yards and one touchdown. George rushed for over 100 yards in 11 straight games while rarely playing more than three quarters. George's finest game was against a tough Illinois defense he rushed for 314 yards. John Cooper commented, "This young man has got the best work ethic of any football player I've been around. This award could not go to a finer person, both on and off the field, than Eddie George." George was selected by the Houston Oilers in the 1996 NFL Draft with the 14th overall pick.
